Packing Your Hospital Bag

Ah! The daunting hospital bag. There are hundreds of blogs, YouTube videos, and conversations you can have with moms about what is necessary to pack and what to avoid. Through all of this, there are a few common denominators. I would recommend packing everything on this list and adding other things later on if you so choose.

For Mom…

  • Lip balm

  • Toothbrush and toothpaste

  • Hairbrush/comb

  • Hair Bands

  • Deodorant

  • Nursing bras

  • Going home clothing

  • Two short gowns or long t-shirts and robe if you prefer to wear your own clothing to hospital gowns

  • Warm socks

  • Warm blanket, the hospital will provide you with a thin blanket

  • iPhone charger

  • Electrolyte beverages (I recommend Needed Hydration Support)

  • Wallet with ID & insurance card

For Partner…

  • Copy of your Birth Plan

  • IPhone charger

  • Toiletries (toothbrush, deodorant, etc)

  • Snacks and food, many hospitals don’t have food available at night and the vending machines might have limited options

  • Sweater or sweatshirt

  • Change of clothes

  • Wallet with ID & cash

For Baby…

  • Going home clothing: onesie, outer clothes)

  • Properly installed car seat (visit www.seatcheck.org)
